SUBARNAPUR, 13/7 P.O.B (UGRASEN KARMI): The murder of Suratha Naik (55) of Phulchara village under Bagbar Panchayat of Birmaharajpur police station of Subarnapur district has been revealed by the police on Friday. The police said that the accused in this incident, Nirakar Khandayat (45) of Phulchara village, was arrested and taken to court. A syn-recreation of the event was also shown. The police clarified that the murder took place in the center of the previous land dispute. In a press conference held at the police station at around 8:30 pm yesterday, SDPO Basudev Chhatria on behalf of the police gave detailed information about the incident. He informed that the accused killed Suratha by covering the deceased in a rug and hid the rug and lunghi he was wearing in another place and threw the deceased in a well there. He informed that because the Niece of the accused, Babina, was taken away by Subas Naik, the Nephew of the deceased, there was a conflict between the two families and this was also a reason. He refuted the allegations of political motive behind the incident. It is reported that the other two accused in the incident will be taken into custody. According to information received, Suratha was missing since Wednesday evening. The family went in search of him and saw signs that his sandal and shoe had been taken from the local Harihar Jore. The family suspected that he was abducted or killed for political reasons. A case No.(220/24) was registered in the police station at around 2 o'clock in the night based on the complaint of Dayanidhi Naik, the son of deceased Suratha Naik. In the complaint, a front line leader of the BJD party was accused of abducting Ranjit Rath of Nuagarh village, Nirakara Khandayat (45) of Phulchara village and Shovakar Khandayat Suratha with the intention of murder. His family, villagers and BJP workers blocked the road for about 6 hours from Thursday morning, demanding speedy justice and proper investigation of the incident. State Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo and Balangir MP Sangita Kumari Singhdeo were passing through to attend a function when the family members also informed him about the incident. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Singhdeo ordered the police to quickly investigate the incident and take action against the culprits, after which the roadblock was withdrawn. After a long search, Surath's body was recovered in the afternoon from a well near the mouth of the Harihar Jore, about one and a half kilometers from Phulchara village. The body of the deceased has been handed over to the family members after post-mortem on Thursday evening. Birmaharajpur Police Station Officer Shobhakar Seth is said to be in charge of investigating the incident. Yesterday afternoon, Sambalpur (ND) I.G. of Police Himanshu Lal and Balangir Supdt. of Police Rusikesh Khilari Dyandeo also visited the spot.
